Title: Women in Business: One Simple Skill to Curb Unconscious Gender Bias

Date: Tuesday, August 11, 2015, 1:00 pm EDT

Duration: 00:49:16

Presenter: Joseph Grenny and Candace Bertotti

About:

Gender bias is a reality in today’s workplace. Some of it is conscious and intentional. Long-term solutions for that kind of bias require substantive leadership and policy action. However, some examples of gender bias are not so conscious.

For example, past research shows that both men and women judge assertive women more harshly than men—and don’t even realize they’re doing it. This kind of subtle bias can be equally challenging to change. While it is the responsibility of leaders to address this hidden inequity– we wondered if there are things women can do right now to blunt some of its effects.

Join New York Times bestselling author Joseph Grenny and Master Trainer Candace Bertotti to discuss this research and to learn skills for being assertive in a way that reduces bias and restores equality. You’ll learn:

  • To recognize the crucial moments when unconscious bias is most likely.
  • To frame remarks in ways that dramatically reduces unconscious bias.
  • A tactic to make such bias more discussable and conscious – leading to positive change.
